Hindu Chaplain
Sanjay Mathur is a Hindu Chaplain and community leader dedicated to fostering spiritual care, interfaith understanding, and compassionate service. A Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)–trained chaplain, he has completed four units of CPE in hospital settings at UR Medicine and Rochester Regional Health. Sanjay currently serves as a chaplain at the University of Rochester (Interfaith Chapel), Syracuse University (Hendricks Chapel), and Rochester Institute of Technology, as well as a visiting Hindu Chaplain at Colgate University.
Beyond chaplaincy, Sanjay has held key leadership roles in several faith-based and community organizations. At the Hindu Temple of Rochester, he has served as President (2014–2018) and is Chairperson of the Board of Trustee (2025), helping to shape the Temple’s vision, mission, and community outreach. He guided long-range planning, volunteer engagement, and major fundraising initiatives, while ensuring that spiritual services and educational programs remained accessible and inclusive.
As an Advisor to the Hickey Center for Interfaith Studies and Dialogue at Nazareth College since 2017, Sanjay promotes religious literacy and global citizenship through education and youth engagement, helping students explore faith diversity and mutual respect.
He is a Secretary of the North American Hindu Chaplains Association (NAHCA), an organization connecting Hindu spiritual care providers across healthcare, education, military, and community settings.
Rooted in the principles of dharma (right living), seva (selfless service), and ahimsa (non-harm), Sanjay’s work bridges faith, compassion, and service—helping individuals and communities find connection, healing, and peace.
